There was some
controversy a few years back over the introduction of many languages as choices for pupils learning another language in school.
Why
this was I don't know as these languages are far more important
today in a political and business sense on a global level than French or
German are.
In my opinion the most widely spoken and important
languages in the world today are Arabic,English,French,Hindi,Mandarin,Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Minus English (which
we all speak) I think all the others should be offered as choices to
pupils wishing to learn another language.
